The Family-to-Family Health Information Center in partnership with Family Voices, USVI is here to help by raising the awareness of Children and Youth with Special Healthcare Needs (CYSHCNs). The F2F/HIC program information educates and helps families know and advocate for their health rights. The F2F/HIC works closely with Family Voices, USVI to train families to navigate the healthcare system and communicate effectively with healthcare professionals to ensure they receive the care and services they need.
Training for parents as Health Navigators and Health Professionals with Family Voices National consultants provide engagement leadership, training, and support for Family Voices USVI; in establishing trusting and mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholders in the communities of the US Virgin Islands.
Ongoing outreach and training activities for family members and youth are conducted with the VIDDC and other DD Network Partners. Family Voices USVI have engaged in multiple organizations, both governmental, private, and not-for-profits in collaborating and sharing information, resources that has increased our opportunities to support the development of the newly forming family voices program and the parents who will lead it.
The workshops help develop policies and/or best practices that support families of children and youth with special health care needs in all facets of their lives. Families are also prepared and assisted during IEP sessions to improve the outcome of students with special health care needs and receive the services they need through the IEP goals.
This training enables a parent or primary caregiver of a child or youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN) the ability to work with parents of CYSHCN to provide, Emotional support, Systems navigation, and Connection to community resources.
The VI F2F Network Inc. is a key partner in the development to implement a Not-for-profit coalition building. A key goal is to the build the capacity and sustainability of not-for-profits within the coalition so they can provide support and services of families of individuals with special healthcare needs, families and persons with developmental disabilities, and at-risk youth utilizing a "birth-to-career" strategy.
